Welcome to the English Structure course, tailored specifically for Grades 10-12 students and GCE candidates in Zambia. The English Structure course is fundamental to mastering English grammar. It is designed to solidify your understanding of key grammar concepts that are critical for answering transformation (rewrites) questions—a common feature in the Zambian O’level English exams. Mastery of these structures will not only prepare you for the exams but also enhance your overall language proficiency, making you a more effective communicator in both written and spoken English.
In this course, you will explore a wide range of grammar topics that are essential for constructing clear, accurate, and meaningful sentences. These topics include:
- Conditional Sentences: Understanding the various types of conditional sentences and how they express possibilities, unreal situations, or hypothetical scenarios.
- Contrast and Unreal Past: Learning how to use contrasting statements and the unreal past tense to express hypothetical situations and unreal conditions.
- Inversions: Mastering the use of inverted sentence structures to emphasize certain points or create a more formal tone in writing.
- Parts of Speech: Revisiting the basic building blocks of English grammar, such as nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, and prepositions, and understanding how they function in sentences.
