This course delves into advanced elements of English sentence construction, focusing on phrases, clauses, and sentence types. Students will begin by exploring phrases, learning how to define and identify them, understanding their key characteristics, and distinguishing between various types such as noun phrases, verb phrases, and prepositional phrases. Practical tips for recognizing and using phrases effectively in writing and speech are also provided.

The course then shifts the focus to clauses, where students will learn to differentiate between independent and dependent clauses, including relative clauses and other structures like that-clauses. The section emphasizes the importance of clauses in creating complex and meaningful sentences. Building on this knowledge, the course examines sentences in detail, including their constituents (subject, predicate, verb, and object) and classifications by function (declarative, interrogative, imperative, exclamatory) and structure (simple, compound, complex, compound-complex).

The course also introduces numbers and quantifiers, teaching students how to express approximate quantities and use quantifiers in context. This section is particularly useful for learners aiming to improve their descriptive and numerical accuracy in English.

Advanced English Structures takes students deeper into the intricacies of English grammar. The course covers tenses, providing a comprehensive overview of past, present, and future tenses, including their continuous, perfect, and perfect continuous forms. It also focuses on participle phrases, explaining their formation, types, and rules for usage. Additionally, the course explores conditional sentences, including zero, first, second, third, and mixed conditionals, as well as special structures like “unless,” “should,” and “had.”

The course introduces direct and indirect speech, teaching students how to convert direct speech into reported speech while managing tense changes and reporting verbs. It also covers questions and question tags, including their formation, types, and usage in everyday communication.

Advanced topics such as expressing reason, comparison, contrast, inversions, purpose, and result are also addressed. These sections provide students with the tools to construct sophisticated sentences and convey nuanced meanings. The course revisits subject-verb agreement and reported speech, reinforcing key rules and addressing common challenges. Finally, it introduces unreal past tenses, teaching students how to express hypothetical situations, preferences, and urgency using structures like “wish,” “if only,” and “would rather.”

Throughout the course, students will engage with practical examples, tips, and knowledge tests to reinforce their understanding and application of these concepts. By the end of this section, learners will have a solid grasp of English sentence construction and the ability to use advanced grammatical structures with confidence.
